Computerized Materialization: Paradigms, Processes and Practices

The seminar „Computerized Materialization: Paradigms, Processes and Practices“ focuses on introducing the theoretical, historical and methodological foundations of computer-based design and manufacturing since the digital turn at the end of the 20th century. The focus is on the examination of computer-based design and manufacturing processes that have emerged since then and thus on the examination of non-standardised, machine-based mass production and corresponding discourses on variation, notation or objecthood. At the same time, the seminar aims to open up important theoretical points of contact with (digital-material) contemporary practice and, in particular, to focus on the appropriation of digital design and production practices by corresponding cultures of work and knowledge. To this end, the course discusses essential paradigms, processes and practices.
